The anatomy lab

The drawings in Death & Dissection have their roots in observational studies. Sourced from sketches and annotations in my notebooks, I have exploited scale, composition and tone to marry the visual, intellectual and emotional encounters in the labs. Embalmed cadavers, prosected specimens, artificial models, mobile skeletons, ‘pickled parts’ in jars and teaching literature serve as an stimulating and assorted environment, where the procurement of anatomical knowledge surpasses any other purpose or activity.

But my attention is not on acquiring a mastery of the human function. It resides somewhere else.

So, don’t be fooled; the subversion of anatomical accuracy serves a tool to broaden medical representation.

These works mark the beginning of a series of drawings from the anatomy labs.
