(detail) Dead Lust
Clay heart

From the residency Blessed are the cracks (2009)

Clay heart, brain and abdominal, found box

Love. Lust. Desire. These are emotions we experience both psychologically and physiologically, even metaphorically (we’ve all heard of the man who died from a broken heart) Dead Lust pays respect to these felt emotions in the face of loss. The brain comprehends: the stomach acts as the vessel for ‘butterflies’: the heart pumps warm blood around the body to feed these vital organs, and pulsates to an emotive rhythm that often remains indescript.

Presented in small scale and wearing a ‘deathly black’ shade, the organs in Dead Lust speak about the bodily ordeal when faced with the reality of lost love and desire; laid to rest in an open casket for mourning.
